- Businesses can do a waste audit. Once you have a good sense of what’s in your waste stream, you can start tackling the biggest offenders.
- Incorporate a section to business policy on waste reduction. For restaurants, food waste reduction strategy can be included in the waste policy.
- Plastic waste bottles can be replaced with filtered tap water. There are few restaurants, cafes and guesthouses who practice filtered water or pack water in glass bottles.
- Provide employee training about the waste and waste reduction protocols inside your business. Then, have regular updates on successes, failures or new protocols throughout the year. Your employees are your biggest asset so get them involved.
- Communicate waste goals to customers. If you’re committed to reducing waste, it’s likely your customers are too. Communicate to them if you have a policy on not using plastic straw or plastic water bottles. Promote bringing own shopping bag and sell reusable shopping bags instead of giving single-use plastic bags
- Keep signage of waste policy in the café/ restaurants.
